The Chicago Sky are fighting for playoff position but have a difficult schedule heading into the All-Star and Olympic break. They had a home and home against the New York Liberty, who have the best record in the WNBA, before closing things out against the two-time defending champion Aces. It did not start out well.

They lost to the Liberty 91-76 on Thursday. New York ran away with the contest late, but Angel Reese kept her historic double-double streak alive. Reese had done it in 15 games straight, but the rookie could not make it 16 on Saturday afternoon.

The 6’3 forward had a chance in the final moments. Fans saw Reese extend the streak by making two free throws with just six seconds remaining on Wednesday against the Atlanta Dream. The rookie tried to make a similar play with the game decided on July 13, but the Liberty were not letting it happen.

Liberty sent 4 players to stop Angel Reese’s double-double streak

Reese finished with eight points, 16 rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 36 minutes of action on Saturday afternoon. She was three of 13 from the field and had several opportunities to score.

Here final chance came with the Sky down 14 points in the final seconds. They forced the ball into the paint to Angel Reese. The 22-year-old went to the basket, but four Liberty players collapsed on her and gave her no chance to shoot. See the video here.

It was an impressive run from Reese. Candace Parker previously held the record with 12 double-doubles in a row. The 6’3 forward is an elite rebounder and is on pace to break the season-single record.

The Sky have one more game before the All-Star break. They face the Aces on Tuesday before Reese heads to Phoenix for the All-Star festivities. It will be the first time she teams with fellow rookie Caitlin Clark. The July 20 contest is already sold out and will be a marquee event for the league. Expect Reese to be ready to put on a show.

The 22-year-old is just getting started. She is already the WNBA’s best rebounder and has superstar upside. Reese has massive goals and is working hard to achieve them. The Chicago Sky are no strangers to building a winner. Expect them to continue growing and improving around the 6’3 forward. Fans certainly won’t want to miss it.

Next. 1st post. Angel Reese is going to Olympics (but why you think). dark
