Former Chicago Sky forward Brianna Turner signed a deal with the Indiana Fever on Sunday, according to the WNBA's transactions page.
Turner, a 6-season WNBA veteran and former 1st-round selection, played in one season for the Sky after being included in the trade that sent guard Kahleah Copper to the Phoenix Mercury. The 2-time All-Defensive selection played sparingly in the 2024 WNBA season. She ended the year with averages of 1.2 points, two rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. The former Notre Dame forward has been suiting up for the Adelaide Lightning of the Women's National Basketball League in Australia during the offseason. She has been averaging 12.7 rebounds per game, enough to lead the league and barely beat out another former Sky forward in Anneli Maley.
The Sky made plenty of moves to add complimentary guards to fit alongside center Kamilla Cardoso and forward Angel Reese, but will need to add size and rebounding off the bench to keep the consistency they found on the boards heading into their 2025 campaign.
They only have three bigs under contract, including their star-studded sophomore duo of Cardoso and Reese. Center Elizabeth Williams, who is currently competing alongside a new Sky teammate in Athletes Unlimited, is under contract for one more season. Whether it be through the draft or by finding other options across the league or free agency, Chicago will need to add one more backup big before the start of the 2025 season. Forward Isabelle Harrison, who played consistent minutes as a backup power forward last season, is an unrestricted free agent.
The Sky finished last season at the top of the league in total rebounds and offensive rebounds. Their average of 36.6 per game would be the team's highest since the 2015 season, when a 2-time MVP in forward Elena Delle Donne led Chicago in boards per contest as they made their third playoff appearance in team history with a semifinals appearance against the Fever.
