Chicago Sky center Elizabeth Williams signed with Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball, the league announced in a Thursday release.
Athletes Unlimited, a 4-year-old sports organization focused on women's sports, organizes leagues in a few different sports. Its basketball league began in 2022 and features a number of players from across the WNBA landscape and beyond. Players switch between newly-drafted teams every week. A champion is declared at the end of the season based on "win points," "stat points" and "MVP points." They are based on quarters and games won, a player's statistics during games and a score based on game MVP votes. The four top point earners from every week are selected as team captains, who go through the process of selecting their teams for the next week. Past league champions include Atlanta Dream guard Allisha Gray, Indiana Fever forward NaLyssa Smith and former Dream forward Tianna Hawkins.
Williams will join Sky forward Isabelle Harrison, who played in the 2024 season along with former Chicago forward Ruthy Hebard. Hebard and Harrison took 22nd and 25th place in the final leaderboard standings, respectively. The 2025 season will span from Feb. 5 to March 2, a little more than two months before the Sky tip off in their regular season opener against the Indiana Fever.
Williams is one of a handful of Sky players who will be or are playing in different leagues this offseason. Guard Chennedy Carter, who is listed as a restricted free agent for the Sky, is putting the Women's Chinese Basketball Association on notice with a dominant season for Wuhan Shengfan. The 5-foot-9 guard is averaging 29.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 2.5 steals per game in her 12 games played. Sophomore center Kamilla Cardoso has found her scoring stride with the Shanghai Swordfish of the WCBA, where she has averaged double-doubles with 24 points or more in three-straight games. Her frontcourt partner in forward Angel Reese will play for Rose Basketball Club of the Unrivaled basketball league in January, where she will join two former Sky champions in guard Kahleah Copper and forward Azura Stevens.
Williams averaged 10 points and seven rebounds per game during her second season with Chicago. She has played with a variety of international squads throughout her professional career, including stints with Turkish, Chinese and Russian teams. An eventful month for the former Duke big will include earning a master's degree from Arizona State University next week.
