Who should the Chicago Sky select in the first round of the 2025 WNBA Draft?

The Sky can be flexible with their first-round selections in this year's draft. Still, they must walk away with at least one of their guards of the future if they are to pair their sophomore big duo with the right young talent. Chicago's star guard options from years past have either signed with other squads or were dealt away in recent years. The Sky traded Marina Mabrey, one of their top scorers from the past two seasons, to the Connecticut Sun in July.

Plenty of college superstars will be available for them at the No. 3 pick, even if some may not be the best fit with what the Sky need this year. Chicago can try its hand at guards from a variety of collegiate powerhouses, including Notre Dame, who ranks third in the AP polls with a record of 10-2.

Shot creation

The Sky must find players who can create opportunities on offense and boost their scoring potential after finishing last season with one of the league's worst offensive ratings.

Sellers can create opportunities for herself and her teammates with her driving and passing abilities. She racked up 10 assists in a November win over Towson and is averaging 5.5 assists per game this season. She looks comfortable when driving downhill with the ball in her hands, where she can either score on a close layup or find a passing option if she needs to bail out.

Her ability to find players in transition and deliver pinpoint passes could up the Sky's playmaking potential. Her size as a guard could make her an intriguing prospect if her ability to drive and score carries over to the WNBA.

Defense

It wouldn't hurt to add players who can up Chicago's defensive potential.

While Sellers has been willing to rotate inside this season, she earns her keep on the outside as active defender who can switch well on the perimeter and on cutting players. Her ability to apply pressure on and off the ball can make her an even more valuable option for a Sky squad in need of some extra help on defense. Sellers put her defensive prowess on full display against Towson, where she logged three steals in the home victory.

Having her defensive abilities on the Sky can strengthen a Chicago defense that ended last season with the fifth-lowest defensive rating in the WNBA.
