Maryland guard Shyanne Sellers has scored 20 points or more in her last three games, including in a Tuesday win over No. 24-ranked Minnesota. The 6-foot-2 guard went on a scoring tear against the Golden Gophers. She ended the night with 27 points as she hit nine of her 11 shot attempts and all three of her 3-point tries. The Ohio native added nine rebounds, seven assists and one steal.
Sellers, a former 4-star recruit in the class of 2021, is leading the Terrapins with 4.9 assists per game this season. She has ended four of her last five games with 20 points or more, boosting her season average to second place on Maryland's roster. Though she isn't shooting at as high of a volume from long range in her senior season, her 3-point average has increased to a career-high 44.8% in 17 games played.
Sellers found her stride as a leader in the fastbreak and with tough passes in the halfcourt against Minnesota. She fearlessly drove to the hoop and used her size to make contested shots in the paint. The two-time All-Big Ten selection had a few highlight moments off her pivot foot and pull-up shots. Her creativity and playmaking could make her a solid fit for the Chicago Sky, who are in need of extra scoring after finishing last season near the bottom of the league in points per game.
The Sky have yet to extend a qualifying offer to guard Chennedy Carter, who led Chicago with 17.5 points per game last season. They have until Jan. 20 to do so before she becomes an unrestricted free agent. Should they choose not to bring back the scoring guard and add scoring talent in the upcoming free agency period, Sellers could be an option for Chicago to look out for should she fall to them with their second first-round selection in this year's draft.
