Pros and cons of the Chicago Sky drafting Olivia Miles third overall In 2025
By Elaine Blum
The Chicago Sky will get the third overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft and a potential high-level talent to put next to Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso. Reese has already established herself as an All-Star, and Kardoso likely won’t be far behind.
Now, the Sky need to find the right players to put around them in order to get the team back to the playoffs. Chicago may not land Paige Bueckers, but there are still plenty of talented players in this draft class. Most mock drafts have the Sky selecting Norte Dame guard Olivia Miles with the third overall pick after the Dallas Wings snatch Paige Bueckers, and the Los Angeles Sparks reunite Cameron Brink with her former teammate Kiki Iriafen.
There certainly is a lot to like about Olivia Miles’ fit in Chicago.
Pros of the Sky drafting Olivia Miles
Olivia Miles is the kind of talent teams do not want to pass up on in the draft. She is an incredible playmaker, averaging 6.8 assists over her college career so far, and has an amazing feel for the game. She could get Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso plenty of open looks and make their lives easier while also adding her own scoring and a strong rebounder to the game.
Miles has played four games so far this season. She scored 16 or more points in each game and had a triple-double to open the season as well as a double-double in her most recent game. For a guard, Miles is incredibly strong on the boards. Led by Reese and Cardoso, the Sky were the best rebounding team in the league. Adding another talented rebounder to the mix would make the Sky almost invincible in that aspect of the game.
Plus, the Sky will likely need a high-level guard. Dana Evans is almost certainly not returning to the Sky, and Chennedy Carter’s future with the team is still up in the air. She was the team’s leading scorer last season, but new head coach Tyler Marsh was very vague about Carter’s future with the Sky when asked about it on The Athletic Women’s Basketball Show. In contrast, new Fever head coach Stephanie White has already made it very clear that she wants the team to re-sign Kelsey Mitchell.
Cons of the Sky drafting Olivia Miles
The only con of the Sky drafting Olivia Miles is her shooting. Chicago desperately needs as much 3-point shooting as possible around Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso. It is the easiest way to open up the game for them.
So far in her college career, Miles has not been a consistent 3-point shooter but this season she is shooting 47.4 percent. Four games is not a large sample size and she has to do it consistently but there is promise. If Miles is adding a 3-point shot to her game, she would be the perfect fit for the Sky.
Even if the shot still takes a while, passing up on Miles would be a tough decision, though. There just is not much to complain about her game if the Sky are looking to add a young point guard to develop alongside their frontcourt stars.
