Teresa Weatherspoon pays Angel Reese the highest compliment
By Tyler Watts
The Chicago Sky went to Las Vegas and defeated the Aces 93-85 to close out the first half of their season. Chennedy Carter stole the show with 34 points, including multiple clutch baskets to seal the victory, but Angel Reese quietly had a 13-point and 10-rebound double-double. Her historic streak is over, so she started a new one. The 22-year-old played a crucial role in the much-needed win.
The Sky enter the All-Star and Olympic break at 10-14 and clinging to the eighth and final playoff spot. They are 2.5 games up on the Dream and just half a contest behind the Fever in the standings. Defeating a top-four team on their home floor to close things out was a confidence booster, and Chicago needs every win possible if they plan on making the playoffs.
Reese did not have her biggest game, but she tipped home a basket in the final two minutes and made three clutch free throws to ice the victory. After the game, her coach was quick to praise the rookie All-Star for her crucial qualities to being elite.
Teresa Weatherspoon makes clear Angel Reese is a winner
The head coach and Hall of Famer had this to say when about the rookie’s work ethic and willingness to play her role when having an off night postgame.
"That’s maturity. You can tell that she is not just out here for herself. She is out here for team wins, and that’s what it is all about. The ball wasn’t falling for her early, but she stayed within what we were trying to do as a team. You know everybody was getting involved like our young people say, everyone was eating. You know it makes a difference. She is just going to do everything she possibly can for the good of the team."
Reese is a winner. She won an NCAA championship at LSU, and her team had multiple NCAA Tournament victories in each of her four college seasons. The 6’3 forward wants to win and will do whatever it takes to get the victory.
Weatherspoon knows a thing or two about winning. The Hall of Famer won an NCAA title and two WNBA Defensive Player of the Year awards to go with her five All-Star appearances. It is a massive compliment for her to acknowledge Reese’s desire to play any role to get victories.
The rookie has been a crucial part of the Sky’s success, and the best is yet to come. Angel Reese will come back from the Olympic break better and plans on helping Chicago make the playoffs for the sixth straight year. She has massive goals and is willing to put in the work to accomplish them. The Chicago Sky certainly have a special player and several teams already regret passing on her in the draft.
