McDonald's announced its latest meal collaboration, the "Angel Reese Special," in a Thursday tweet. The meal will feature a BBQ Bacon Quarter Pounder with Cheese, medium fries and a medium drink. It will be released on Feb. 10. She will become the first female athlete with a signature meal with the fast food giant, according to a Thursday article from Andscape commentator Arielle Chambers.
It won't be the first time the international chain has partnered with a Chicago athlete.
McDonald's released the "McJordan Special," a promotional item based off legendary Chicago Bulls guard Michael Jordan, at over 350 restaurants in the Chicagoland area in 1991. The $1.89 special was released just a few months before Jordan won his first NBA championship. The limited-time promotion featured a quarter pounder with cheese, BBQ sauce and onions. Jordan would go on to star in "The Showdown" commercial in 1993, an ad starring two Hall-of-Famers in Jordan and Larry Bird. McDonald's has worked with a handful of NBA stars in the past, including ads with Charles Barkley in the 90's and Kobe Bryant in 2001.
Reese's stardom off the court has led to a variety of appearances and endorsements this offseason.
The sophomore standout and The Hershey Company partnered up in August to release the "Reese's Collection," which features t-shirts, hoodies, crop tops, baseball caps and a Reese's basketball jersey. She would join the company as a brand ambassador, according to On3. Reese would make an appearance on the cover of the Winter Edition of Vogue magazine earlier this month, cementing her stardom across the sports world as she joined track and field star Gabby Thomas. The 6-foot-3 forward would extend her endorsement deal with Reebok, which included a signature shoe to be released next year, in October.
Reese, the No. 7 selection in the 2024 WNBA Draft, ended last season with averages of 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds during her All-Star rookie campaign in the WNBA. She has taken up a starting role for the Rose Basketball Club in the newly-formed Unrivaled league, where she logged a season-high 17 points as the Rose fell to the Laces on Monday. Reese will be joined by a Sky legend in guard Courtney Vandersloot, who is expected to sign with Chicago after spending two years with the New York Liberty. Vandersloot, a 12-year veteran for the Sky, currently plays for the Mist Basketball Club in Unrivaled.
