This year's NCAA tournament has seen plenty of more prominent names make their case for their place in the 2025 WNBA Draft. UConn guard Paige Bueckers, the crown jewel of this year's class, officially declared for the draft one day before she dropped 40 points on Oklahoma. A projected top-4 pick in Sonia Citron helped guide Notre Dame to its 4th-straight Sweet 16 appearance.
The Chicago Sky will have one first-rounder in this year's WNBA Draft. They will need to hit a home run with a point guard later in the first round as they continue to build their roster of the future. The Sky will also have the ability to swap picks with the Connecticut Sun next season, which could play a role in who they take this year since the pick could end up being a lottery selection.
Chicago will need an all-around guard who can pass the ball well, get her teammates involved and establish a new identity on offense. The Sky signed a passing master in Courtney Vandersloot this offseason, but may need to add depth behind her with their three picks in this year's draft. While they could always wait until the second round for a player like Serena Sundell, they should take a chance on a Big Ten star if she falls to them in the first.
Shyanne Sellers should be a no-brainer pick for the Sky
Sellers should be a must-add for the Sky if she falls to them in the first round.
The 3-time All-Big Ten selection ended this season with averages of 14.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. Her 3-point percentage shot up to just under 41% in her fourth season with Maryland, which could only add to her case to join a Sky squad in need of extra 3-point shooting. The 6-foot-2 guard can add size, scoring and versatility to Chicago's new-look lineup that features plenty of new but proven faces.
The Sky can also move on to addressing their need at either forward spot if Sellers falls to them. They can try to add sharpshooters who can up their shooting potential and add their own strengths off the bench. Should players like Maddy Westbeld be available later on, they can add competition in training camp with a big who can space the floor if needed. Either way, the Sky will have plenty of immediate options to look out for should they add Sellers in the first round.
