Newly-signed Chicago Sky guard Kia Nurse had high praise for her new teammate in forward Angel Reese during her introductory press conference on Thursday.
“Sky’s the limit for Angel," Nurse said, via Marquee Sports Network Digital Content Producer Karli Bell. "I love her physicality as well. What I like she has the utmost confidence in herself. For me, you can see even more of her game this offseason.
"There’s so much potential for her.”
Nurse, a 1-time All-Star and former 1st-round pick, worked well as a guard for the Los Angeles Sparks last season. She built a solid dynamic with forward Dearica Hamby off the pick-and-pop and in catch-and-shoot situations. Nurse was assisted by Hamby 24 times, the most of any player on the Sparks last season. The 6-foot guard can be a much-needed fit for the Sky if she elevate the game of Reese, who averaged nearly two assists per game while showing some signs of being a decent passer in and around the paint.
Chicago already has a healthy mix of youth and veteran talent and can add a few more with its nearly $400,000 in cap space. The Sky will have three more roster spots to account for as they look to add more players who can fit alongside their two blossoming bigs.
Nurse will join guard Courtney Vandersloot, who could be a fantastic pairing with the Sky's last top-3 selection in center Kamilla Cardoso. Chicago strengthened its backcourt with the acquisition of guard Rebecca Allen, who can help boost the Sky's shooting along with Nurse. Whether it be the Notre Dame guard duo of Olivia Miles and Sonia Citron or some selections later in the first round, the Sky must prioritize adding another young guard through the draft to pair with their big duo as they continue to fill out their roster before the start of the 2025 WNBA season.
