Unrivaled released its 30-player 1-on-1 tournament list on Tuesday. The tournament will be separated into four pods of players. Fans will vote to determine their seeding in their respective groups to form its 1st-round matchups, according to USA Today. The first round will be played in two sessions on Feb. 10, the second round and quarterfinals on Feb. 11, and the semifinals and finals on Feb. 14.
Chicago Sky and Rose Basketball Club forward Angel Reese will not be participating, according to Chicago Tribune Sky beat reporter Julia Poe. Reese, who has played in all four games for the Rose, is averaging just under 11 points per game in the first few games of her Unrivaled career. She would join Brittney Griner, Sabrina Ionescu and Courtney Vandersloot as some of the more prominent names who will not participate.
Even without Reese, Sky fans will still have plenty of players to root for in the upcoming 1-on-1 tournament.
Five former Sky players will suit up in February's tournament. Five of Reese's Rose teammates will suit up in the four pods, including two in Pod A. The tournament will feature a $350,000 prize pool. $200,000 will go to the tournament's winner, $50,000 will go the runner-up, $10,000 will go to each of the winner's teammates and the rest will go to the semi-finalists, according to Unrivaled's website.
Kahleah Copper
Copper is the Rose's leading scorer at 16 points per game. Though she had an off scoring night against the Laces on Monday, the 7-year Sky guard has shown she can be a reliable scoring leader for the Rose. She was placed in a pod that features one of the league's founders in Breanna Stewart, along with a pair of notable scoring guards in Allisha Gray and Marina Mabrey. Copper's scoring could make her an interesting option to look out for in the 1-on-1 tournament, especially if she faces off against a former teammate in Mabrey.
Courtney Williams
Williams, a guard for one of the league's best squads in the Lunar Owls, will compete in Pod B. Her Lunar Owls teammate in Napheesa Collier, along with Reese's Rose teammate in Lexie Hull, will be a few of her potential rivals as she takes to the 1-on-1 tournament. The former Chicago guard is averaging nine points and five assists per game on the squad with league's top offense. Williams may have a tougher hill to climb with plenty of sizable guards in her pod, but she can make an impact in the tournament if she can continue to be the scoring guard that made her a standout player in this year's WNBA Finals.
Azura Stevens
Stevens is averaging 11 points and 6.3 rebounds per game for the Rose. She was put in the same 7-player pod as Alyssa Thomas, who was traded to the Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday. Guard Chelsea Gray, Reese's teammate on the Rose, will join Jewell Loyd as some of the more notable guards to look out for in Pod A. The 6-foot-6 forward could be an underrated big to look out for in the tournament if she can tap into the all-around talent that made her a reliable big for the Sky.
