New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu was the final wildcard selection for the upcoming Unrivaled 3-on-3 league. She was selected by the Phantom Basketball Club, which includes a nine-time All-Star in center Brittney Griner.
The former Oregon guard will join a variety of former Sky players in the league's inaugural season, including guard Marina Mabrey and forward Katie Lou Samuelson on Phantom BC. Samuelson, a two-time First-Team All-American for UConn, was selected by the Sky with the No. 4 pick of the 2020 WNBA Draft. She filled the second wildcard spot when she joined Phantom BC last week. Mabrey was sent to Chicago in a four-team trade in 2023, one that saw now-champion forward Leonie Fiebich move to the Liberty with a pair of picks.
Chicago will have one current player, forward Angel Reese, represent them in the 3-on-3 league. She will play alongside a pair of Sky champions in guard Kahleah Copper and forward Azura Stevens, who guided Chicago to the top of the WNBA landscape for the first time in 2021. Two more Sky champions in guard Courtney Vandersloot and center Stefanie Dolson will suit up for the Mist and Laces basketball clubs, respectively.
Ionescu averaged 18.2 points and 6.2 assists in her fifth season with the Liberty. She earned her third All-Star selection. She won her first WNBA Championship with a tightly-contested 3-2 win over the Minnesota Lynx, who featured a pair of former Sky players in guard Courtney Williams and forward Alanna Smith. Forward Betnijah Laney-Hamilton, a second-round selection for the Sky and Copper's former Rutgers teammate, played and started in all five games for New York.
Chicago went 1-3 in their four matchups against the Liberty last season. They prevailed in an early-season victory at home, but fell in their next three matchups at the Barclays Center and Wintrust Arena.
