The WNBA just released its schedule for the 2025 season. After the success of last season’s rookie class, fans cannot wait to see them grow and compete with some of the more veteran stars in the league as well as the new talent that will be entering the WNBA.
The Chicago Sky may not have made the playoffs in the 2024 season, but there is still plenty to be excited about. Angel Reese already made her first All-Star team, broke several records, and contributed to the WNBA’s rise in popularity, and Kamilla Cardoso profiles as a star in the making as well. Their rookie season was derailed by injuries but the Sky will undoubtedly look to make some noise next season.
So, let’s take a look at some of the most interesting games on the Chicago Sky’s 2025 schedule.
Rookie of the Year rematch
The WNBA did not miss out on the opportunity to start the 2025 season by having the two top competitors for the 2024 Rookie of the Year award face off. The Sky will start off their season with a game in Indiana against Caitlin Clark and Aaliyah Boston.
Clark won the Rookie of the Year award over Angel Reese, and on May 17, the latter will get a first shot to remind people of her talent and show out against Clark.
Home opener against the reigning champions
The Sky’s first game of the 2025 season will be on the road. After facing Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever, the Sky will come home to play their home opener against the reigning champions on May 22. Having to face the New York Liberty in the first game at Wintrust Arena will be a challenge.
New York is projected to be one of the best teams in the league once again and the way the Sky play against those squads will dictate the way their season goes.
The first game against the Golden State Valkyries
The Golden State Valkyries are the WNBA’s newest franchise. Fans and players have been waiting for a new expansion team and the extra roster spots it brings for a while now, so most were excited to welcome the Valkyries into the league. The Valkyries will play at Chase Center, which is where the Sky will face the new franchise for the first time.
On June 27, the Sky will travel to San Francisco and take on the Valkyries and maybe even some former players.
Marina Mabrey’s return
Marina Mabrey came to Chicago ahead of the 2023 season but only played 24 games with the team last season. The Sky traded Mabrey, who wanted to play for a contender, to the Connecticut Sun before the trade deadline. In that trade, the Sky lost one of their most productive offensive players and a competitive defender.
Mabrey will make her return to Chicago on August 23. Since the trade, Mabrey already faced the Sky twice but not yet in Chicago.
