Kentucky guard Georgia Amoore scored 21 points in an 88-70 win over Western Kentucky on Saturday.
She hit eight of her 15 tries from the floor and three of her six 3-point attempts. The 5-foot-6 guard added nine assists and three rebounds. Center Clara Strack, a sophomore center and Amoore's teammate at Virginia Tech, notched a 21-point double-double in 32 minutes played.
Amoore has scored 20 points or more in her last four games. She earned a season-high 23 points in two matchups with Belmont and Purdue Fort Wayne. The former West Virginia guard is has not shot efficiently from the floor in her collegiate career. Amoore was a four-year starter for Virginia Tech before transferring to Kentucky in April. Her Hokies squads under now-Kentucky head coach Kenny Brooks had made the NCAA tournament in every season she was there. She played with former Chicago Sky forward Taylor Soule during the 2022-23 season. Guard Kayana Traylor, who was selected by the Sky of the 2023 WNBA Draft, was also on the roster.
Amoore still leads Kentucky in scoring with 16.3 points per game. The senior guard has momentarily recovered from a slow start from the floor with two efficient nights against WKU and Purdue. Amoore is averaging a career high in assists and steals per game with seven and 1.2, respectively.
The Sky may need more size and shooting efficiency at the guard spots, but Amoore's passing can make her a solid fit for the Sky if she is available later in the first round of the 2025 WNBA Draft. Chicago has been in need of passing talent since two talented guards in Courtney Vandersloot and Courtney Williams departed from the Sky in the last two offseasons. The Sky ended last season with an average of 19 assists per game, putting them in 11th place in the WNBA. The Sky were in the top four in assists per game in 2023 and first in the league the season prior.
