Looks like third time was the charm.
Rose BC ended a Saturday matchup with the Mist with their first Unrivaled win of the season. The 71-66 win featured an even scoring outing from the Rose, with four players ending the night with double-digit points. The Rose limited the Mist to just over 18% from the 3-point line. Rose guard Lexie Hull, who broke out into a sharpshooter for the Indiana Fever last season, led the squad with 19 points. Forward Breanna Stewart led the Mist with 20 points.
Guard Kahleah Copper, who ended the night with 18 points, showed just how important she was to the Rose's scoring attack by scoring the team's first five points. The former Chicago Sky champion used her quickness to score a quick contested layup against Los Angeles Sparks forward Rickea Jackson before knocking down a quick 3-pointer to send the Rose up by two. Copper leads the Rose and is tied for sixth place in Unrivaled with an average of 18.7 points per game.
Forward Angel Reese finished the matchup with four points and six rebounds following a slow start to her night. Azura Stevens, a 7-year WNBA veteran and a two-year starter for the Sparks, was able to hold down the fort as a big in 10 minutes of play. She used crafty moves and switches in the post to open up opportunities at the basket. The 6-foot-6 forward hit 50% of her 10 shot attempts, including two of her four 3-pointers.
The Rose moved up to fourth place in the Unrivaled standings following a Phantom loss to the Lunar Owls. They sit two games behind the Lunar Owls and Laces in the Unrivaled standings. The Vinyl, who the Rose faced in their inaugural Unrivaled matchup, is one game ahead of them.
The Rose will move on to face the Laces at 8:30 p.m. EST on Monday. The game will be broadcast on TNT.
