The Chicago Sky will have the big duo of Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso to look forward to next season. The two were joined by plenty of proven guards who could expand their game with their playmaking and shooting prowess. The Sky will also have three draft selections in the 2025 WNBA Draft, which will give them some flexibility when trying to fill out the rest of their roster.
Chicago may need to invest in a backup power forward to pair alongside Reese and Cardoso before the start of the 2025 WNBA season. The Sky have seen a few solid big rotations in the last five years, including a loaded big group that featured Candace Parker, Emma Meesseman and Azura Stevens a few years ago. The Sky added a variety of veteran bigs through free agency and trades across the last two seasons, but all but one have gone their separate ways.
Elizabeth Williams can play a key defensive role for the Sky next season
Elizabeth Williams, a decade-long WNBA veteran and 1-time All-Star, will need to play a key role off the bench for Chicago next season.
The 6-foot-3 center has proven her excellence since she first signed with Chicago in 2023, including as a vocal leader off the court and a defensive anchor on it. She would average 10 points and seven rebounds per game in nine games before she was sidelined with a torn meniscus last season. The 3rd-year Sky big re-signed with the squad in September, making her the only big under contract on the roster outside of Reese, Cardoso and a training camp signee in Morgan Bertsch.
Williams must continue to lead by example as a defender in what could be a key year for the Sky's sophomore big duo. She has two All-Defensive selections to her name, including a spot on the First-Team in 2020. She was a reliable shot-blocker who knew how to get to the right place at the right time as a help defender. The former Duke big averaged 1.7 blocks and 1.7 steals per game last season, which highlighted her ability to disrupt plays on the inside and stay on track with whoever drove towards the basket.
Williams could be the perfect compliment to Reese and Cardoso, who proved to be one of the league's better rebounding duos with a combined 21 rebounds per contest. With one more power forward who can stretch the floor and uphold that same standard on the boards, the Sky will have a big rotation to look out for as they make a potential push for the playoffs.
