And now, the moment we've all been waiting for.
The Chicago Sky Daily MVP will highlight the Sky's Most Valuable Player from the 2024 season. This year's MVP and runner-up proved to be the largest contributor's to Chicago's sparks of success in the dawning year of a new chapter in Chicago Sky basketball.
The Sky have not been represented by an MVP winner since forward Elena Delle Donne in 2015. She earned the honors after a stellar season that saw her average a league-leading 23.4 points per game. Center Sylvia Fowles and forward Candace Parker, who both suited up for Chicago during their Hall-of-Fame careers, won the award on different squads.
Winner: Angel Reese
Reese, a first-round selection in last year's WNBA Draft, became a notable part of the Sky's defense from day one.
Reese ended the 2024 season with an average of 13.1 rebounds per game, including 8.1 defensive rebounds per contest. The figures would put her in first and second place in the league, respectively. The 6-foot-3 forward added 1.3 steals per game as she effectively applied pressure both on and off the ball on the perimeter. While she wasn't efficient from the floor, Reese still added 13.6 points per game, which put her in third place on the Sky's roster.
Reese's stellar season led to an All-Star selection and a spot on the league's All-Rookie team. Reese would join her teammate in center Kamilla Cardoso, who proved she could be a valuable part of the Sky's long-term plans with a solid rookie season of her own.
Runner-Up: Chennedy Carter
Where Reese helped anchor the Sky's defense, Carter separated herself as one of Chicago's most valuable options on offense.
On a new-look team, Carter proved to be an invaluable part of the Sky's scoring attack. She picked up the scoring slack for a Sky squad that finished in 11th place in the league in points per game. Chicago was in the top two in points per game just two seasons before.
Carter finished the 2024 season with a career-high 17.5 points per game. She led the Sky's roster in points per game and total points. Carter looked like a scoring machine in the first half of the season, including when she fully broke out as a full-time starter for the Sky starting in June. The 5-foot-9 guard averaged just over 23 points per game in July. She highlighted her resurgent season with a 34-point performance against the back-to-back champions in the Las Vegas Aces, where she sliced and diced Las Vegas's defense on her way to confident drives to the basket.
