Former Chicago Sky guard Chennedy Carter signed with Adelitas de Chihuahua of the Mexican Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional Feminil, the team announced in a recent Instagram post.
Adelitas de Chihuahua, the first-ranked team in the LNBPF, ended their 2024 campaign with a record of 17-3. They would ultimately fall in six games in the league's Finals to a Khaalia Hillsman-led Fuerza Regia squad as they came close to winning back-to-back championships. Last year's roster featured a former Las Vegas Aces second-round pick in Aisha Sheppard, who also competed against Carter in the Chinese WCBA as she suited up for the Xinjiang Magic Deer. Victoria Vivians, who has spent time with the Indiana Fever and Seattle Storm, will join Carter on Chihuahua's 2025 roster, according to LatinBasket.
Carter proved to be one of the Sky's best newcomers during a 2024 season that saw her average a career-high 17.5 points per game. The 2020 All-Rookie selection would continue her scoring dominance into her most recent stint in the WCBA, where she led Wuhan Shengfan to a 26-6 record and a top spot in the league's Group B standings. Carter would ultimately win multiple notable awards, including the WCBA's Player of the Year, after she led the league in scoring with an absurd average of 31.4 points per game.
Carter's scoring prowess proved to be a valuable part of a sputtering Sky offense that took near last place in the league in a number of categories. The Sky ended last season with an offensive rating of 97, their lowest in more than a decade, as they looked to find an identity on offense following the departure of some of the team's proven leaders. A number of starters left the squad in the years leading up to their 2024 campaign, including in a blockbuster trade featuring Kahleah Copper.
Chicago has since brought in a handful of guards to take over the scoring load in Carter's stead, including a two-time All-Star in Ariel Atkins. Atkins, the all-time leading 3-point scorer for the Washington Mystics, will be tasked with solving some of Chicago's more immediate scoring problems as she likely takes up a starting role for the Windy City squad. Should one of their newest draft selections in guard Hailey Van Lith make the opening day roster, the Sky will be one step closer to having their foundation for the future set with Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso at the helm.
