Chicago Sky guard Chennedy Carter dropped 40 points in her latest matchup in the Women's Chinese Basketball Association, according to a Sunday tweet from Chinese Women's Hoop Show.
Carter's night was highlighted by an incredible buzzer-beater, where she turned a picked-off pass into a pull-up 3-pointer while craftily spinning past a defender. The scoring guard hit 15 of her 31 shot attempts, including three of her six 3-pointers, on her way to another 40-piece. She added 12 rebounds and six assists. She led Wuhan Shengfan to an 82-75 win over Liaoning, marking their second-straight win and officially solidifying a 3-1 regular-season record over the squad.
Carter has separated herself as one of the premier talents in the WCBA this season. She leads Wuhan in points and assists per game with 31.2 and six, respectively. Carter has hit just under 58% of her shot attempts despite shooting at a high volume, further proving she can be a top scoring option on the top team in the league's Group B standings. Wuhan is a few games ahead of the Heilongjiang Dragons, who feature another WCBA star and WNBA veteran in forward Myisha Hines-Allen.
Carter is one of Chicago's three restricted free agents this offseason. She joins forward Michaela Onyenwere and guard Dana Evans. The Sky can extend qualifying offers to the trio until Jan. 20. Teams can begin negotiating contracts with WNBA free agents starting the next day.
Evans, a four-season veteran for the Sky, is suiting up for Besiktas JK of the Turkish Super League this offseason. The 26-year-old scored 19 points in a Sunday win over Nesibe Aydin. She added eight rebounds and six assists. Evans is playing alongside Seattle Storm guard Nika Muhl and now-Golden State Valkyries center Temi Fagbenle on one of the higher-ranked teams in the Women's Basketball Super League. Evans has played for the Turkish team since 2022, when the former Dallas Wings guard was a part of a Sky squad that earned the most regular-season wins in the Sky's short history.
